In the morning on June 19, the celebration for founding of the Institute for Studies in County Economy Development of Lanzhou University was held at the Undergraduates Activity Center on Panxuan Road Campus of Lanzhou University. The Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, Lin Duo was present as the Secretary of Party Committee Yuan Zhanting hosted this ceremony where the President introduced the basic information of this institute.

Lin Duo fully affirmed and appreciated to set up the Institute for Studies in County Economy Development. As he pointed, county economic growth was regarded as the basis for urban-rural integrated development, a cornerstone for regional development as well as a significant part of provincial social and economic development. That is, poverty alleviation cannot be motivated without county economic growth. On this very note, the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government prioritize the development of county economy to make a new industrial system.

Lin Duo emphasized that the establishment of this institute really reflects the willingness of the Lanzhou University to shoulder the responsibility to serve the local economic growth in accordance with what the provincial government party congress advocates and aims.

High-level academic researches function as strong impetus for county economic growth. To be specific, not only will the local government’s top-level design and promotion to county economic growth be improved, but also local socio-economic development will benefit from practical contributions made by the universities and colleges. He also expected more and more teachers and students would be willing to participate in this cause and wished Lanzhou University could insist on this exploration and make it with urban-rural growth, industries- counties integration come true, making residents and counties well-off and prosperous.

Yuan Zhanting presented a heart-felt appreciation for the long-time support and care given by the Provincial Party Committee and Government to our university. He said Lanzhou University decided to set up this institute after thorough consideration in order to actively serve the local socio-economic development, which is also in line with the spirit of our provincial Party Congress. Besides, what we are thinking of is to give full play to our comprehensive advantage of multidisciplinary in terms of science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, humanities and social sciences, etc. In so doing, we are able to break the ground in terms of top-level design, objectives, implementation, industrial restructuring and resources integrating, thus offering wisdom to our county economic growth.

Wang Cheng said as the institute is founded, we will select one county as a trial for field researches and interdisciplinary studies respectively at Hexi, Central area, Longdong and northern part of Gansu based on their features to make a creative planning on county economic growth for the distinctive and demonstrative counties. When the demonstrative bases work, other counties among the total 86 ones will be implemented the plans step by step in Gansu. Therefore, we can provide policy advice and consultant services for governments to boost the provincial economic development.

Wang Jiayi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee with comrades of the Working Office of Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Department of Education,the Provincial College Working Committee as well as the leaders, some teachers and students of Lanzhou University attended the ceremony.
