Celebrating 100^th Anniversary of our University: Forum on County Economic Growth and Rural Revitalization

December 15, 2018 marks the Forum on Gansu County Economic Growth and Rural Revitalization to celebrate the 100^th anniversary of Lanzhou University. This forum is held to pave a thriving way for distinctive and prosperous counties with rural-urban integration and rural revitalization, thus presenting a happy and glorious Gansu with a moderately prosperous society in all aspects.

This forum is hosted by Lanzhou University and Gansu Bank, organized by Institute for Studies in County Economy development, Institute for Studies in Rural Revitalization Strategy. Totally over 90 delegates participated in this Forum. They are from the Policy Research Office of Provincial Party Committee, the Research Office of Gansu Provincial People's Government, governmental departments of Lanzhou, Jinchang, Wuwei, Jiayuguan, Jiuquan, Longnan, Baiyin, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region and Zhongwei of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, various research institutes and enterprises. Zhang Shizhen, Vice Governor  of Gansu Province, was present and addressed at this Forum. Yuan Zhanting, Party Secretary of Lanzhou University, attended the Forum and delivered a speech. Wu Guosheng, Deputy Executive Secretary of Party and Dean of the Institute hosted the opening ceremony. Besides, Ren Weidong, Chief of Gansu Xinhua News Agency, Qin Qingshan, Deputy Director of Policy Research Office of Provincial Party Committee,  Gao Chunyuan, Deputy Director of the Research Office of Gansu Provincial People's Government , Liu Rong, Deputy Mayor of Lanzhou People’s Government, and Wang Jianjun, Deputy Governor of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region also attended the Forum.

Zhang Shizhen pointed out that Gansu has always been sticking to what the General Secretary Xi Jinping put up in “8 Indicators” to work for a moderately prosperous society based on Gansu’s reality. He emphasized that rural revitalization and county economy development boast great significance in the provincial economic and social development and serve as general levers to address issues related to agriculture, rural areas, and rural people in the new era. Lanzhou University always prioritizes the national strategies, rejuvenation of the nation, regional development and happiness of the people as its pursuit and responsibility by continuously infusing talents and intelligence for a sustainable regional growth and a beautiful China. As Lanzhou University  is currently committed to the construction of “world-class universities and world-class disciplines”, powerful support from experts and scholars as always for the university is needed to explore innovative practices and experiences on county economic growth and rural revitalization, and thus to contribute more to local social and economic development.

Following the opening ceremony, Professor Zhang Liqun from Development Research Center of the State Council, Professor Li Guoping from Capital Development Research Center of Peking University, Professor Lv Fengyong from National Academy of Economic Strategy, CASS and President Liu Qing from Gansu Bank  gave  their presentations, including “Speeding up Turning to High Quality Development to Face Downward Pressure”; “Promoting Transitional Development of Small Domestic Towns in the New Era”; “Differences and Relationships Between Rural and Urban Areas and Strategies for Rural Revitalization in China”; and “Identifying and Working on Key Factors to Boost Rural Revitalization”.

In the communication and discussion, Huang Yuhua, Deputy Secretary General of Zhongwei  People's Government, Wang Jianjun, Deputy Governor of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region, Zhang Hongjun, Executive Deputy Mayor of Yumen Municipal People's Government, Feng Shugang, Chairman of Board of Gansu Pu Kang Liquor Group Co., Ltd., Song Guiwu, Deputy Director of Gansu Provincial Communist Party School Think Tank Station, Professor Guo Ailan from Baiyin Communist Party School, Professor Wei Lili from the School of Economics of Lanzhou University, Associated Professor Shao Chuanlin from the Finance School of Lanzhou University of Finance and Economics, Mao Jinhuang, Executive Dean of the Institute, and Associated Professor Wang Xiangdong from the School of Management of Lanzhou University respectively shared their views through the following speeches: “Focusing on Rural Revitalization to Open a New Stage for Rural Economic Growth”; “Building Picturesque Gannan under Rural Revitalization Strategy--Improving Rural-Urban Environment and Civilizing Moderately Prosperous Villages to Realize Rural Rejuvenation”; “Striving for High-Quality Development with Iron Man Spirit”; “To Form Garden Complex Centering on Sheep as Breakthrough for Rural Revitalization Strategy”, “Exploration on the Vision of Revitalization Strategy under Socialism with Chinese Characteristics”; “Research Report on Rural Governance of Baiyin City”; “Logic and Optimization Direction of Urban Green Development Policy——A Quantitative Analysis of Policy Text Based on Lanzhou Government Work Report”; “The Motives, Dilemmas and Realization of Promoting Green Financial Development in Western Ecological Vulnerable Areas”; “Research on Evaluation System for the Degree of Regional Rural Revitalization”, “Construction of Performance Evaluation System for Rural ‘Three Changes’ Reform Based on Reform Theory”.

Mao Jinhuang, Executive Dean of the Institute hosted the closing ceremony and made comments on the all speeches.

Drawing wisdom from experts to satisfy local needs, this forum serves as a communication platform for government, academic institutes, enterprises and social organizations to explore pluralistic and practical modes of cooperation for their synergies and common goals. In addition, this forum also upgrades our social reputation on our institute and enhances connections among local and trans-provincial research institutes, governments and enterprises. Due to these connections, it also contributes a lot to influence on decision making and  outcomes of our think-tank.
